About Honmachi Hotel

Honmachi Hotel is located in the Honmachi Shopping Street in Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture.

This shopping street, situated along the Goyosankai Road connecting Ise Grand Shrine and Taga Taisha Shrine, flourished as a leading downtown area in the vibrant Showa era, but gradually became a shuttered street with the changing times.

However, it is actually a chaotic and fun shopping street where unique members gather, such as "FORTYNINERS," which reproduces wartime model denim and attracts attention from around the world, a butcher shop that fries croquettes with lighthearted talk, and a bread cafe with a delightful mismatch created by a cheerful owner.

We created Honmachi Hotel in this location to showcase the charm of Honmachi Shopping Street and allow more people to fully enjoy this deep shopping street.

The building we chose for the hotel is a renovated old private house that was formerly a men's clothing store, which introduced Western fashion to this area during the Showa era.
The hotel lounge is a cafe where local people can also gather.
During the day, enjoy restaurants in the shopping street and nearby public dining halls,
and at night, casually drop by traditional public baths and snack streets.
Please enjoy the daily life of the shopping street.

Please enjoy the daily life of the shopping street, such as visiting restaurants in the shopping street or public diners in the neighborhood during the day, or strolling to the old-fashioned public bath or snack district at night.

Representative Toyokazu Kurita
Services Community Development and Regional Revitalization.

For 33 years, I worked for the city hall of Higashiomi City, Shiga Prefecture, engaging in community development. Although I undertook various activities to make Higashiomi City a better place, I desired to be more involved in the town's revitalization as a player myself, closer to the community, and therefore I became independent.
This time, to introduce my beloved Honmachi Shopping Street to a wider audience, to help people discover its unique appeal, and to ensure its legacy for the next 100 years, I established a hotel in Honmachi Shopping Street.
Going forward, I intend to engage in community development using methods that suit each era and location, without being constrained by conventional forms.

Sincerely, Toyokazu Kurita
